Pitra Dosha is also known as Pitru Dosh. A person is affected by the Pitra Dosha if there is a conjunction of Rahu and Sun in the ninth house in the native’s natal chart. This house is also known as the house of Father and Pitra. It is a very inauspicious aspect in the Indian astrology. According to the Brahma Purana, on the eve of Krishna Paksha of Ashwani month, Lord Yamaraj grants freedom to all the souls so that they can accept food and offerings made by their children. It is believed that it greatly effects those people who do not perform the last rites of the deceased in the family with proper rituals especially those who do not adhere to the “Shradh rituals” during the Pitra Paksh. Default in this can cause the ancestors to get angry and the person faces dire consequences.
